Storing Broccoli

Besides, you don’t need to cover the stem. Keep the wrapped green veggie in the refrigerator without a container or plastic bag to allow it to breathe.  When you decide to cook it, you can take the required proportion out and wash it.

Leave the green vegetable in water for some minutes and rinse it well before you cook it.

Cooking Broccoli

You can add broccoli to its cousins Bok Choy, cauliflower, kale, and Brussels sprouts anytime for a mouthful taste. Besides, you can pair it with garlic, ginger, horseradish, and others also. Broccoli Pesto

For two cups of this, you would need 250g of broccoli. Cut the flowers and stems into small pieces to blanch them in salted boiling water for two minutes.

After this, you can remove water and run the pieces under cold water. Other ingredients comprise roasted 40gm almonds or cashews, 10g flat-leaf parsley, 50g grated Parmesan or basil, half teaspoon black pepper, one teaspoon salt, juice of half lemon, and two garlic cloves, etc. You can add all these to a food processor with broccoli and blitz. Later, put 125ml olive oil in the chunky mix and pulse again. The pesto will be ready to elevate your hot pasta preparation with some more olive oil and Parmesan. If you don’t need to use it immediately, you can store the pesto in a jar in the refrigerator for a maximum of up to one week.

Charred Broccoli

It resembles roasted broccoli. However, preparation can be slightly different. You can use a broiler to char it and add a few ingredients, such as toasted pine nuts, basil, fresh lemon, etc., to give it some tasty flavor. The broiler can give caramelized flavor to your broccoli florets while keeping its stalks crisp and tender. For this side dish, you have to cut small florets and spread them on a sheet pan to help the steam pass. You can put the sheet pan under the broiler for its flame to char the florets. Or, you can grill or roast the same in an oven.

While it is cooking, you can turn florets on different sides for even charring. The whole process can take about 15 minutes. You can shift the charred ingredient into a mixing bowl as per the quantity and drop virgin olive oil for flavors. Sprinkle salt, fresh lemon juice, and lemon zest. In the end, you can top it with fresh basil, pine nuts, and cheese. Toss the mixture well before you serve. Just remember, the choice of cheese should be excellent if you don’t want to compromise with its delightful quality.
